Wills for Entrepreneurs (Virtual Session)

Thursday, July 24th at 12:00pm - 1:00pm ET

Wills for Entrepreneurs (In-Person)

Wednesday, August 6th at 7:30pm - 8:30pm ET

Location: Hamilton, ON - TBD depending on # of registrants

WHY is a will important for business owners, especially sole proprietors?

Because death, illness, accidents, disease, injuries, and age happen – whether we are prepared for them or not.

Having a current/updated and legal will ensures your wishes are respected, reduces stress for loved ones, and helps prevent disputes over property.

🖋 Having a will avoids intestacy:

Without a will, the law determines how your property is distributed, which may not align with your wishes.

In Ontario, intestacy (dying without a will) requires a probate process for the estate to be finalized. The process involves court intervention, appointment of an estate trustee, and asset distribution according to law.

🖋 Having a will protects your family:

A will ensures your loved ones receive what you intend them to have and can protect assets from falling into the hands of estranged relatives.

🖋 Having a will reduces family stress:

A well-drafted will simplifies the process for your family to navigate after your passing, minimizing confusion and potential conflict.

❌ DO NOT assume that people know what you want.
❌ DO NOT assume that your children will be taken care of.
❌ DO NOT assume that your assets will be easily accessed by your spouse or next-of-kin.
❌ DO NOT assume!

This session will walk you through the different sections of a will, as well as how to choose and assign beneficiaries, clarify what an estate trustee can do, and discuss the importance of assigning Power of Attorney and Executor roles.

Additionally, we will discuss how to protect your business assets and ensure your family or beneficiaries have access to these accounts and assets if you become incapacitated.

This session is focused on wills for entrepreneurs but everyone is welcome.

Registration is required.

Note: For virtual sessions, a Zoom link will be provided to all registrants within 24 hours of the session start time.
